Here to Help (Covid-19 Pandemic)
These are unprecedented times. Times to create, times to share and times to come together... even though we can't actually be together.
Dave has created these resources to help people around the world to make and learn about music.
All resources are free and designed for people of all ages and musical abilities.

Score & Parts
This project is now complete. Click here to enjoy the finished performance of "Latin..."
We're so excited to announce the launch of the People's Virtual Orchestra. In this first project Dave will conduct and produce his piece "Latin..." This opportunity is open to everybody in the world of any age or ability. If you'd like to take part, you'll record a video of yourself playing your part in each of three rehearsals. Your video will be included in our PVO performances on YouTube. It's completely free to take part.
All instructions will be given in the live rehearsal sessions. These films can be watched at anytime. The 3 live rehearsals for "Latin..." are as follows:
- Monday 27th April 2020 1220pm (London time BST)
- Monday 11th May 2020 1220pm (London time BST)
- Monday 25th May 2020 1220pm (London time BST)
Young people under the age of 18 can take part, but written permission from your parents is required to include your video online. Dave Lowe has a full DBS check. He is Head of Music and Director of Performing Arts at Manor CE Academy, York
Please send videos to us using wetransfer.com (free) - send to MrLowePVO@gmail.com The deadline to send all videos is Friday 5th June. The final rehearsal will be used to go over any corrections. By sending your material to us, you're also giving us permission to use your clip in PVO performances and also on social media platforms to share what we make together. We don't plan to include your names anywhere. You're also agreeing to not need any form of financial payment in return. This YouTube account does not make money. If that changes in the future, all profits would be given to youth music organisations.
Every Monday at 1220pm during the Covid-19 crisis, when students in UK schools are teaching remotely, Dave is presenting a live YouTube show to continue to demonstration practical music making.
Dave's Quick-fire Music Challenges help musicians of all ages to develop their technical skills. Each challenge has 4 levels of difficulty to aspire to. There are all live composition demonstrations and challenges.

Melody in Context is a new 5-week course, specially designed by Dave for practical, remote music lessons during lockdown. The course is for students in Years 7 and 8 (aged 11-13) to complete at home. The first 4 lessons are taught via video teaching clips made by Dave. Each week focuses on a famous, familiar melody. Students are encouraged to work independently by listening to a performance of each theme, drawing an analysis of the notated score and completing a 'fill-in-the-blanks' task to describe the music and its detail in context. Students are also challenged to perform each melody and there is a Kahoot! quiz to confirm understanding at the end of each 1-hour lesson. Lesson 5 is a 30-question test, built on Socrative.
Already several schools are using this new course. As with all of Dave's resources it is available free to all. If you are a teacher and would like to run the project in your school, get in touch and we'll send you all the lesson plans, links and resources.
